From November 23rd to 26th, the Incheon Art Show 2023 will be held at the Incheon Convensia Center, and this year, the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) is making a bold statement with its participation. Under the title "Contemporary Canvas," FIT's FD Department is set to showcase a vibrant and creative display, featuring more than 20 original digital artworks printed on T-shirts. The Incheon Asia Art Show is a platform for artists and designers to show off their art pieces. In this year’s Incheon Asia Art Show, ‘Beyond Asia Connect Global,’ around 700 domestic and international artists will be participating and operating booths. FIT's presence at the event underscores its commitment to fostering creativity and embracing the global art market. Visitors to the FIT booth at Convensia can expect to be captivated by a diverse array of curated graphic T-shirts, each piece carefully curated to reflect contemporary designs. The Modern T-Shirt allows individuals to express themselves while controlling their own personal narratives. This exhibition represents a collaborative work within the Fashion Design Department, showcasing the talent of the student, faculty, and staff designers. For those eager to explore the intersection of art, fashion, and technology, the Incheon Asia Art Show 2023 is the place to be. 15 students from the Fashion Institute of Technology Fashion Design Department travelled to Tokyo, Japan for a field trip to get a hands-on global experience of the fashion industry. Mark-Evan Blackman, Chair of the Fashion Design Department, led the 15 students, in their 2nd or 4th semester in the Fashion Design major, on this international field trip from Tuesday, June 20 to Friday, June 23. Prior to this trip, the students were required to conduct a professional analysis of the Seoul Fashion Market to provide them with meaningful insight before traveling to Tokyo. This analysis helped the students to compare and contrast the differences between the Korean and Japanese fashion markets when visiting the 15 assigned retail units. During this three night and four-day trip, the students also visited 2 museums and 2 galleries, and met up with the Japanese apparel Design Director. This wonderful opportunity to communicate with the designer allowed the students to understand how designers articulate their intelligence into their design. While visiting all the assigned retail units, museums, and galleries, the students were able to review and analyze the clothing assortments and displays, as well as study the unique designs of the garments.             

SUNY Korea's FIT graduate Chaeeun Lee won the Critics Award from the senior design director of knitwear at Coach, Stacey Tester on May 11, 2023. After receiving her AAS degree at SUNY Korea in Spring 2020, Chaeeun continued on to the BFA program at FIT NY. FIT Fashion Design Department had the Opening Ceremony of the AAS (Associate in Applied Science) Exhibition on Friday, June 10. This exhibition features the beautiful garments made by eighteen graduating students from the FD department at the SUNY Korea Museum of Modern Costume. This year, the students worked on their pieces inspired by the works of Andre Kim and Kyungja Choi, Korea’s top designers, which are kept in the storage of the Seoul Museum of Craft Art.  During this ceremony, President Lee, Prof. Leonard Bess and Prof. Bonkuk Koo each gave congratulatory remarks on the completion of the pieces and their graduation.   We send our sincere congratulations to the graduating FIT students for their excellent works of art!

In five ceremonies on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 24 and 25, in Central Park, President Joyce F. Brown and the FIT administration and faculty will confer degrees upon the undergraduate Class of 2022. Each program will last approximately 90 minutes and will include FIT’s commencement traditions with an alumni keynote speaker.
